There will be one big race before Kentucky Derby. It is Dubai World Cup. Dubai World Cup is the riches horse race in the world with a purse of $6 million to the winner. This year, the Dubai World Cup meeting on March 29, 2008, comprises of seven races of varying purses, totalling a staggering $21.25 million.

Chief supporting races are the $5 million Dubai Duty Free and the $5 million Dubai Sheema Classic. Also on the card are the Dubai Golden Shaheen and UAE Derby, both worth $2 million, and the $1 million Godolphin Mile, while the evening kicks off with the Group 1 Dubai Kahayla Classic for Purebred Arabians.

Curlin
, the 2007 Horse of the Year, is expected to take on a dozen contenders in this year. Curlin won a $175,000 Jaguar Trophy here in preparation for the Saturday, March 29 race.

The final field for the Dubai World Cup will be declared on Monday, March 24 with the post position draw taking place two days later.
