The 154th running of the Belmont Stakes is this Saturday at Belmont Park. The Belmont Stakes is the 11th race on that day and the post time for the race is 6:32 pm EST.

ABC will cover the race from 5:00 to 7:00 pm

The post positions for 2010 Belmont Stakes were drawn yesterday and here are the contenders in the post position orders and odds.

There will be no Triple Crown potential this year and Super Saver, the winner of the Kentucky Derby, is not running for the Belmont Stakes.

Belmont Stakes is the longest of the three races that comprise the Crown. It is a 1.5 mile (2.4 km) thoroughbred horse race for three-year-old colts and geldings carrying a weight of 126 pounds (57 kg) and for fillies with a weight of 121 pounds (55 kg). Because of its grueling length, the fact that most of the colts haven’t raced that distance, and because of it being the final leg of the crown, it is referred to as the ”Test of a Champion”.

Twenty-six horses have been eligible to win the Triple Crown coming into the Belmont Stakes and eleven have succeeded. Racing has not seen a Triple Crown champion since 1978, when Affirmed swept the three-race series.

The Belmont Stakes is also called the ”Run for the Carnations” because of the white mass of carnations given to and then draped over the champions neck.
