The Louisiana Derby Post Position and Odds
The Louisiana Derby is run at the Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, Louisiana this Saturday. Raced at 1⅛ miles until 1988, two winners of the Louisiana Derby have gone on to win the Kentucky Derby: Black Gold in 1924, and Grindstone in 1996. The 1988 winner, Risen Star went on to win the Preakness and Belmont Stakes.
Pyro, winner of the Risen Star Stakes here nearly a month ago, was installed Monday as the early favorite in a nine-horse field for the Louisiana Derby.
In the 95th running of the Louisiana Derby, a $600,000 Grade 2 stakes race for 3-year-olds, the field, in order of post position, is:
1. Stevil (Calvin Borel, 15-1)
2. My Pal Charlie (Julien Leparoux, 20-1)
3. Pyro (Shaun Bridgmohan, 7-5)
4. J Be K (Kent Desormeaux, 12-1)
5. Unbridled Vicar (Corey Lanerie, 20-1)
6. Tale of Ekati (Edgar Prado, 7-2)
7. Blackberry Road (Robby Albarado, 10-1)
8. Yankee Bravo (Alex Solis, 4-1)
9. Majestic Warrior (Garrett Gomez, 9-2)
